THREE of the Island’s best young surfers will fight it out in Hossegor next month for the chance to become Quiksilver’s King of the Groms.

Matt Chapman (pictured), Nathan Elms and Ben Bates got high scores despite small surf in the UK leg of the contest at the Watersplash last weekend.

Jeux des Iles champion Elms and overall winner Chapman came out top in the U16 age group, proving it more than possible to surf smaller waves with power and flow.

Elms – the clear favourite for the event – started well, with a powerful display on his backhand. Yet with minutes to go Chapman nipped in with two long lefts to perform some good turns and cutbacks and take the overall title.
