VICTIMS of abuse have spoken publicly for the first time to announce their ‘disgust’ at the speech made by the Bailiff on Liberation Day.
The Jersey Care Leavers Association is calling on Sir Philip Bailhache to retract his comments that ‘the denigration of Jersey and her people is the real scandal’.
Speaking to the media outside Haut de La Garenne yesterday, the acting chairman of the group, James Campbell, read out a statement on behalf of the association.
He said: ‘Whatever the merits of the very different media coverage of the child abuse scandal in Jersey, the Jersey Care Leavers Association was shocked to hear the Bailiff say that the denigration of Jersey and her people was the real scandal.
