A team of nine swimmers and four coaches attended the event which incorporated the Special Olympics Regional Gala and all swam 25m disciplines.

There were 13 personal bests recorded including five speeding tickets which were given to swimmers who posted a PB with an improvement of over 15 per cent from their declared time, ruling them out of winning medals.

‘I was very impressed with the performance,’ said coach Ken Sheehan. ‘We were the smallest team there and we did better than expected – every time we go we improve. This is one of four or five main competitions in the Special Olympics calendar and we were up against good opposition.’
