ST Brelade beach has been tidied up by Transport after a number of businesses complained about the reduced sand level following recent storms.
Deckchair stallholders and café owners were furious that Transport only improved half of the beach, leaving the stretch from Pizza Express towards the Hotel L’Horizon with rocks gaping out and green water stagnating in between.
Despite Transport Minister Guy de Faye threatening that proprietors would have to foot the bill, which he estimated would cost £15,000 for an emergency job, Transport did pay for a temporary ‘cosmetic’ clean-up on Wednesday which cost £750.
Chris Sampson, Transport’s director of municipal services, said that after complaints discussions were held between Economic Development and Transport officers to see if there was anything which could be done to improve the visual appearance of the bay.
