THE new president of the National Trust for Jersey has praised a minister for blocking controversial plans for 36 homes on Plémont headland.
Mike Stentiford said Environment Minister Freddie Cohen’s surprise refusal to support the scheme was a ‘courageous and morally correct decision’ which could help maintain a sensitive stretch of coastline.
Mr Stentiford spoke out after Senator Cohen refused a planning application to build the homes on the site of the former Pontin’s holiday village, which has now become a blight on the Island’s north-west coast.
He said: ‘Although this was undoubtedly both a difficult and a courageous decision to make, it was also a morally correct one – a fact that was made clearly evident by the loud applause from the large number of people who attended the meeting.
