Mike Taylor said that the Island had to be more proactive about branding its excellent seafood as a premium product and demand higher prices.

He made the comments following the publication this week of the total catches for 2007 by the Department of Planning and the Environment.

Overall, however, he said that the figures showed the Island’s fisheries were in good health, with the tonnage of crab, lobster and scallop landed last year all up around 20 per cent on 2006.
