In wet conditions at Grainville, Glendening displayed good pace and strength to capitalise and he could have had a fourth but he snatched at a shot to miss from close range.

Daniel McFarlane and Keiran Queree were also on target in a well-contested game, played in very difficult conditions, watched by a good crowd huddled together on one touch line under a sea of umbrellas.

Jersey coach Rob Cameron said: ‘I was pleased with our performance; our preparation has been good and we were out of the blocks quickly to put Guernsey under pressure.

‘Our boys learned a lot on their recent trip away and they adapted well to play some good football in terrible conditions.

‘We had several good performances too; Jonathan Glendening ran hard throughout and finished his chances well while Tom Ward had a very good game in midfield.

‘It was a tidy team performance all round with central defenders Jack Gibson and Johnny Le Quesne also turning in good displays.

‘The win sets us up nicely for the Primary Schools’ Festival, all the boys are looking forward to the games coming up and I’m sure they will do well.’
