The Credit Suisse Jersey Badminton team retained the Gilson Cup for the fourth consecutive year when they defeated Guernsey 16-14 at the Rohais in Guernsey on Saturday. Jersey actually clinched the victory when they took an unassailable 16-9 lead during the mixed doubles. They won the men’s doubles 7-2, lost the ladies’ doubles 3-6 and drew the mixed doubles 6-6.

VOLLEYBALL – Mixed results

Jersey’s men’s A and B volleyball teams beat Guernsey 3-0 in both inter-insular matches played at Beau Sejour but the women’s A and B teams lost 3-0.

Panthers win

In yesterday’s Insurance Corporation JVA Volleyball League matches, 2e2 Panthers beat Gunsite Juniors 3-0 (25-10, 25-3, 25-6) in the Ladies’ Division. IC Jets beat 2e2 Tigers 3-1 (25-10, 24-26, 25-23, 25-14). In the Men’s League, Pentagon Red Hot Tomatoes bt Astros 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) and IC Men bt Walkers Sandkickers 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-23).

SWIMMING – Medals galore

AIB Tigers Swimming Club won 51 medals at the Youth and Age Group Hampshire County Championships in Southampton with Ian Black taking four county titles and JJ Gallichan one. The club came away with 17 gold medals, 24 silver and 10 bronze with the medallists: Tom Gallichan, JJ Gallichan, Sam Fernandes, Mike Le Couilliard, Danielle de Bourcier, Charlotte Manning, Ian Black, Emma Glendening, Iona Richardson, Ebony Jacklin, Kerrie Smith, Hannah Ross.

CYCLING – Mountain Bike Series

Keiron Mills won the Elite class race in the last round of the CCC Mountain Bike Winter Series, sponsored by The Cycle Centre, yesterday. Other results – Sport: Eric Le Brun; Veteran: Simon Stead; Super-Vets: Chaz Knight; Ladies: Lynda Lutz; Schoolboys: George Milner.

VSJ Road race

The Velo Sport Jersey Hougue Bie Road Race was won by CCC’s Ali Cann yesterday. Top junior Chris Serviour (CCC) was second overall and Danny Le Marquand (CCC) third.

SHOOTING – Pistols fired

Russell Woodham top scored with 285 to beat Richard Honeycombe and Billy Goode by two and three points respectively to win the J Le Marquand Cup at the Modern and Military Arms Association Ltd Police Pistol 1 shoot on Saturday.

Martelli Trophy

The Crabbe Jersey Rifle Association Martelli Trophy for .22 clubs was won by St Helier Miniature Rifle Club with 380.24. St Lawrence were second and St Brelade third.

St Lawrence champions

St Lawrence remained undefeated to be crowed champions of this year’s Air Gun League. They beat St John Shooting Club by nine points on Saturday which left St John in equal second position with Eastern Rifle Club. St John’s scores also counted towards a decider for last year’s title as they beat Eastern Air Rifle Club.

MOTOR SPORT – Moto-x under way

In the first event of the Moto-x season, organised by the Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club, Joshua Connery and Elliot Jackson were the E McGarragle & Co trophy of the day winners in the automatic and 65 cc class respectively.

Archirondel trial

Extremely difficult conditions were faced at the Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club motorcycle trial at Archirondel. Results – Junior C: Kealan Bisson; Junior C+: Amelia Jeanne; Junior B: Ben Rive; Junior A: Thomas Mollet; Adult C: Andy Hatton; Adult B: John Renouf; Adult B+: Paul Baudains; Adult A and winner of the Cope Cup: Adam Le Cheminant.

ATHLETICS – Coote wins

Jon Coote won the Jersey Spartan Athletics Club 10k road race from Gorey to St Catherine and back. Phil Ahier was second and Ken White third. Jo Gorrod (fourth overall) was the first lady to finish with Catherine Hutton second (seventh overall) and Carol Knight third (tenth overall).

GOLF – Memorial Trophy

The Royal Jersey Golf Club Edwin Perchard Memorial Trophy was won yesterday by Terry Smith, Phil Barber, Des Ahier, and Siggi Hafsteinsson with a score of 90.

Hampshire 7s

La Moye Golf Club beat Jersey Western four games to three yesterday in the Hampshire 7s Knock Out Championship match.

Demi Society

The Captains beat the Vice-Captains 7-2 in the Demi Golf Society team match on Saturday. The PJ Carter Shield, played on the same day, was won by Steve Harben, 12 hcp, with a net 61. Peter Osment, 14 hcp, was second on 62 and Chris McNabb, 16 hcp, third on 63.

Beeley impresses

New member Ian Beeley won the St Clement Golf Club John Robinson Trophy yesterday with 36 points. In-form Bernie Birch followed up his victory last week in the Elise Dorey with a second place on 35 pts.

BOWLS – Hawes wins

Daphne Hawes beat Barbara Pallot 18-8 to win the Trinity Bowls Club Hawes Trophy mixed singles competition on Saturday.

HOCKEY – Cup action

RWB Ladies 1sts claimed second place in the JHA Investec Women’s Senior Cup yesterday as they beat Jersey Ladies 1sts 3-1. In the Minor Cup, Jersey Ladies 2nds took fourth place overall from JExpress Nomads 2nds as they won this match 6-0. E&Y Quackers Dabblers beat Crusaders Juniors 4-3.

SPORT – Events cancelled

Due to high winds, the Jersey Kart and Motor Club racing and the first two races in the RCIYC Hobie Fleet Spring Series were both cancelled.
