Homes and businesses on the south coast were flooded in what many people believe was the worst battering by the weather since the Great Storm of 1987.
Scenes of debris scattered across roads greeted Islanders as they began their journeys from home this morning.
And they also faced traffic chaos for a second day as Victoria Avenue was totally closed for a short period and vehicles were then restricted to using only one lane as thousands tried to reach work and school.
The worst of the damage was inflicted last night shortly after high tide at 8.30 pm.
