Papers name former Senator in abuse case

The Sunday papers said that Senator Wilfred Krichefski – the former Defence Committee president – has been accused of raping and abusing a boy at the home in the 1960s.

The claims have also featured in the Times, the Telegraph, the Guardian and the Daily Mail today.

But police have refused to confirm whether the former Senator, who died in 1974, is a suspect.

Despite being quoted in several newspapers indicating that Mr Krichefski is one of the people they were investigating, deputy police chief Lenny Harper said that he has not discussed any suspects. ‘I do not know if he is a suspect, and even if I did, I would not say,’ said Mr Harper. ‘Neither I nor any of my team, to the best of my knowledge, have commented on any suspects as yet.’
