The Island is on a short-list together with Bucharest, Amsterdam, Munich, Antwerp and Helsinki and if they are selected it would mean television exposure to over 112 million homes worldwide by International Broadcaster Eurosport.

The new World Series was launched last week with Eurosport Events and FSTC Sports Management teaming up to run four events this year between June and August.

A delegation from FSTC Sports Management, including snooker world champion John Higgins, will shortly visit Jersey before announcing if the Island will stage the Grand Final or host one of the four series events.

Derek de la Haye, assistant director of ESC, said: ‘It’s several months since we spoke to an official about the possibility of the tournament and we looked at a seating plan for it to take place at Fort Regent.

‘We’ve heard nothing since, we have no further details and the Fort has not been booked.

We are supporters of the tournament and we’ll have to wait and see if it materialises.’

Pat Mooney, Chief Executive Officer of FSTC Sports Management said: ‘We will look at the criteria where all the events could be staged and together with the professionals we will make that decision.

‘I’m optimistic about Jersey; it will be my second visit there when we come to view facilities and hopefully Jersey will be on our itinerary either hosting one of the series events or staging the Grand Final.’
