Both Joseph Mayes and Aidan McGuire, who were nominated to attend by the Jersey Cricket Board, have been invited to La Manga Club, Spain, for a five day camp in April next year.
This is the first time Jersey cricketers have been selected for this programme as it will now take place during the school holidays.
De La Salle student Mayes impressed with his left arm bowling during the season.
In the Island’s opening match against Spain in the European under-15 2nd Division Championship back in August, he conceded only eight runs in seven overs including two maidens and one wicket.
McGuire, of Victoria College, was the top scorer in that match as he totalled 33 off 27 balls.
A talented right-hand batsman, he then top scored against the Isle of Man, with 47, and was unbeaten on 95 against France.
The pair, both 15, will join 26 of Europe’s most promising cricketers between the ages of 13 and 17 at the world class leisure resort in Murcia which boasts two pitches with artificial wickets and a four-bay artificial net facility.
Jersey director of cricket, Chris Minty, said: ‘This will be a valuable experience for both of them not only from a coaching point of view but mixing and working with the young cricketers from other parts of Europe.
‘They’ve been nominated as they both had pretty good seasons and played well in the U15 European tournament.
It’s really a learning curve for them but they both want to improve and respond well to good coaching – it’s definitely a positive step for Island cricket.’
The centre is organised by ICC European Development Officer Richard Bedbrook, who stated that the idea behind it is: ‘To identify and select a crop of the most talented young cricketers in Europe at this age group and provide them with an opportunity to develop their talents through excellent coaching and support services in order for them to achieve their potential.’
A team of 14 leaders, including five coaches, will lead sessions on batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping, with focus also being placed on physical conditioning, tactics and leadership.
The programme takes place on 7-12 April 2008.
