PricewaterhouseCoopers, who currently sponsor netball’s School of Excellence, have extended their support allowing the Island’s under-16s to travel to play in league matches on 13 January.
Junior Island coach Linda Andrews said: ‘The Netball Association are delighted that PricewaterhouseCoopers have come forward to support us, it was looking ominous for a while but now we have support we can look forward to giving the squad competitive games at a higher level.
‘We will also be able to bring in some professional coaches to help our girls work on their speed, agility and strength and help them look at their diets.
‘More and more youngsters are playing netball and as we expand so to do our operating costs.
It is certainly not cheap because a two-hour training session alone costs £52 and the players train twice a week.’
The Island’s U16s will play in their league on 13 January with the top two teams progressing to a second tournament at the end of January.
This will be the last season that Jersey can compete as an Island team in the South West League as UK netball is switching to club-based team tournaments only.
Andrews added: ‘We are hoping a couple of Jersey clubs will be able to take part in an under-14 league next time.
Accies and St Clement recently won a tournament in Jersey and hopefully they will be able to afford to compete away when the next league starts enabling their girls to play games at a higher level.’
