The UK Ministry of Justice have told Chief Minster Frank Walker that they will not sign any agreement with Guernsey unless they can show that Jersey’s rights to fish their waters are protected.

Senator Walker said today that the agreement, which was reached in a meeting with Minister Michael Wills in London last week, was a significant step forward in the long-running fishing dispute between the islands.

He said that there had been a fear that Guernsey would try and reach an agreement with the UK which would allow them to ban Jersey boats.
