Mark Constable and Kerry Coombs-Goodfellow retained their singles titles in the Credit Suisse Jersey Closed championships at the New Gilson Hall over the weekend.
Other winners were: Men’s Doubles – Mark Constable and Stephen McGrath; Ladies Doubles Kerry Coombs-Goodfellow & Lucy Burns; Mixed Doubles: Mark Constable & Lucy Burns.
GOLF – King Kenny reigns: Veteran Kenny Mitchell pipped teenager Craig Beeley by one stroke to win the Demi Golf Society’s December Medal competition at St Clement on Saturday.
Both six handicappers, Mitchell’s gross 74 won the day, with Craig’s dad Ian, an 11 handicapper, third on countback with a net 69.
Stewart’s Turkey and Tinsel: Thirteen handicapper Alexander Stewart won Le Mielles GC’s second Turkey and Tinsel competition on Saturday, gaining 36 points to 12-handicapper Craig Hartley’s 35.
Steel’s quartet to the fore: Island Games golfer Harry Steel, James Gibaut, Jim Docherty and Graham Buckland won La Moye Golf Club’s Texas Scramble competition on Saturday with a score of 54.1.
Runners-up were fellow Rhodes Games golfer Chris Young, Malcolm Shaw, Ray Le Louarn and Nick Le Couteur with a score of 54.5.
HOCKEY – Guernsey celebrate: Guernsey’s under-17 hockey players celebrated at 5-1 victory over their Jersey counterparts at Les Quennevais on Saturday.
GYMASTICS – Regent’s medal haul: Regent Gymnastics Club brough home nine medals from the Southern Region Floor & Vault out of age competition over the weekend.
Six club members, aged between eight and nine the event at Maidenhead, with the following results: Level 5 – Charlotte Pollard winning two golds and a silver; Olivia Pollard, gold and silver; Shannon Huby, two bronzes and Emily Durance, two bronzes.
Level 4: Jasmine O’Donoghue, bronze.
Tiana Hampshire also competed at Level 4.
VOLLEYBALL – Tigers stay on top:
In the Insurance Corporation Ladies’ League, 2e2 Tigers confirmed their postition at the top of the league by beating Insurance Corporation Jets 3-2 (25-22, 25-19, 12-25, 18-25, 19-17).
2e2 Panthers beat Gunsite Juniors 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-11) and in the Mixed Division Usual Suspects beat PGB 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-14) and McSteam beat Usual Suspects Too 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18).
SURFING – Loake with Expression: Clint Loake won the Jersey Bodyboarders’ Freedom Expression Session on Saturday, in epic heavy waves at Greve De Lecq in St Ouen.
MOTORSPORT – Bike trials: The winners of the Jersey Classic and Modern Trials Club motorcycle trial held yesterday at La Saie in St Martin were: Adam Le Cheminant (A Route); Oliver du Feu (B Route); Graham du Feu (Pre 65 Premier); Ian Treacy (C Route); Archie du Feu (Pre 65); Dave Le Cornu (Twin Shock); Adam Vibert (Junior A) and Kealon Bisson (Junior Small Wheel).
SHOOTING – Chris Settles for best: Despite appalling weather a hardened band of Lecq Target Club shooters competeted in yesterday’ 50-bird sporting, with Class B winner Chris Settle finishing as High Gun with a score of 38.
Other scores – Class A: Dave Le Rendu 37.
Class B: =2, Martin Shales and Graham Pallot 32.
Class C: 1, John Shales 27; 2, Matthew Peach 24.
Ladies: 1, Kay Cragg 29.
In yesterday’s Crabbe Clay competition held at St Mary, Ross Boydens finished High Gun with a score of 42 ex-50.
Steve Stockes was Class A winner with 39; Howard Durrell won Class B with 38 and Tom Richardson Class C with 30.
Sid Clements was leading veteran with a score of 28.
