The current national singles champion, Cann is already looking set for another good season having so far reached two semi-finals and three finals, although she has been unlucky to lose in all three.
Her latest final came only last week in which she was beaten in three sets at the Scottish International – these results giving her a current world ranking of 37.
Hectic
The former Beaulieu student said: ‘It’s been a good season so far, pretty hectic though with one tournament after the other.
But I’ve been picking out the tournaments to do, making the best of it and training hard with my coach.
I’ve been doing quite a lot of work on tactical awareness – how to play the game rather than just hitting the hard shots.
‘My main aim this season is to try and qualify for the Olympics which is worked out based on your world ranking.
I need to get into the top 16 in the world by May next year to do that.
Obviously there’s still a long way to go so for now I’ll continue to set different goals and keep plugging away but I feel I’ve played well so far.
‘You can’t peak in every competition so some events have been going better than others.
Scotland has been my best tournament this season, when I made the final, as I felt really good and it just seemed like everything clicked into place.
‘I’ve got a tournament coming up in Ireland and then I’ll be heading to Italy before coming home for Christmas.
Next year I’ll hopefully retain my National singles title which will be played at the beginning of February.’
Cann represented Jersey at the Island Games winning gold in the ladies’ singles in both 1995 and in Jersey in 1997.
She also represented the Island last year at the Commonwealth Games in which she just missed out on a bronze medal in Melbourne.
The Beijing Olympics are on 8-24 August 2008.
