The Occupational Health and Safety Review 2006 revealed that nearly 90 per cent of sickness benefit claims were a result of injuries sustained owing to poor posture, lifting techniques and stress.
br>Mr Myers said: ‘In some companies health and safety just isn’t on the agenda, and I think that part of the problem is not understanding what the legal requirements are.
Some employers say that they just don’t have the time.
br>’About 30 per cent of all sickness claims we received last year were from workers in the construction industry, but I actually think that the problems arise in areas like the finance industry, where I doubt whether they give as much attention to health and safety as I would like to see.
Still many employers don’t see it as a real issue, but it’s in those areas that people are suffering.
