Kinnard told the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny panel yesterday that her department needed the power to charge event organisers for police officers in the future.
Jersey Live organisers were charged about £60,000 for UK officers who were brought to the Island for this year’s festival in September. But a proposition being drawn up by Senator Kinnard would enable Home Affairs to charge the organisers of other events for local officers.
Yesterday she told the panel – who are carrying out a review into the policy – that the charges were not to make money for her department. And she said that if the proposition – which is still in draft form and has not yet been made public – failed, then events like Jersey Live could be restricted from further expansion.
