Deputy Gerard Baudains is supporting Health Minister Ben Shenton’s rethink over immunising the Island population against a flu pandemic. He says the minister is right to hold back on the £4m project, and that Islanders need to understand there is another side to the flu vaccine argument. The St Clement Deputy was a 25-year-old mechanic when he had his first-ever flu vaccine in November 1973. Shortly after, he went down with flu. But his health worsened rapidly, and he was unable to work for two years with glandular fever and ME, which he says his doctor told him was linked to the vaccination.
