U21 Muratti: Triple blow

Senior Muratti defender Joel Speight, last season’s U21 goalkeeper Matt Brookland and newcomer Graham Ling are all out Saturday’s game at Foote’s Lane.

Jersey Scottish goalkeeper Damien McCallion, 20 a fortnight ago, has been called into the squad to replace Brookland who suffered an injury while playing last weekend.

Jersey manager Dave Kennedy said: ‘It’s disappointing for the players and the squad but these things happen in football and we have to get on without them.

‘Joel is out because he is awaiting approval from his doctor to start playing again after breaking his wrist.

He was due to have seen him a couple of weeks ago but it was put off for some reason.

‘Joel is a hardened campaigner having represented the senior Island, the U21s and the U18s well in recent years and his experience will be sorely missed.

‘Matt broke a finger playing last weekend while Graham twisted an ankle three weeks ago and he failed a fitness test on Monday night.

‘Jack Boyle is having physio on an injured ankle too and we will not make a decision about him until Saturday.

‘Whoever comes in to play I’m sure will give a good account of themselves.

We have a good squad with great options and they gave me a lot to think about after beating Trinity 2-0 at Les Quennevais on Monday night.’ Kennedy will not announce his starting line-up until Saturday, the day Jersey travel to Guernsey looking to regain the silverware and level the series at ten-all.
