Delay sought on JT sale debate

A scrutiny sub-panel investigating the sale of the States-owned utility is ready to put a proposition to politicians asking for a delay. The debate is due to take place next month on the proposal from Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur to sell off Jersey Telecom as a single business to a business in the telecom sector. He lodged a 292-page proposition on 9 October making the case for the sale. But the scrutiny sub-panel’s vice-chairman Deputy Judy Martin said, in statement to the States today, the panel did not believe that the statutory minimum six-week lodging period allowed sufficient time for States Members and the scrutiny process to do justice to the 292-page document.
