More than 1,000 boxes containing a total of 20,000 books were recycled into much-needed money for the charity on Saturday. Association secretary Tracy Mourant said: ‘It’s phenomenal – and totally beyond all our expectations. Last year we raised just over £15,000 and we thought that was about as high as it could get, but at the end of the day on Saturday we counted £19,980. It’s just amazing.’ The sale, which is in its 14th year, was held at the Royal Jersey Showground and hundreds of bargain hunters turned up to buy novels, reference books, children’s books and even collectable special editions.
