Holcombe men’s 1st XI are currently leading the men’s national south division of the Slazenger England Hockey League and coach Shelagh Herbert explained that the team have realistic ambitions for this match.

‘We know that it’s going to be a very tough game as we’re in the last 32 now and Holcombe are a very strong side, so we’re going into this under no illusions,’ she said.

Stuart Ramskill is missing from the side which Herbert says will be a blow to the team, and Jason Weber replaces Garret O’Brien as goal-keeper.

Dan Lundy, Tom Millar and Joe Crill, all currently based in the UK, will join the side from England.

‘The players are relishing the opportunity of the experience,’ added Herbert, who is unable to travel with the team to the match in Kent this weekend.

‘It will also be good to see how much we’ve improved over the year as we reached this stage last year but were knocked out by the Old Georgian’s.

‘Preparation for the match has been going well,’ added Herbert.

‘We’ve got a training game tonight against the Island Veterans team and there’s a good focus about the side.’ Investec Jersey squad: Jason Weber (GK), Joe Crill, Bobby Minty, Simon Watling, Bradley Wherry, Dan Lundy, Arnou Helmholt-Kniesel, Bill Aston (captain), Mark Dicker, Nathan Maguire, Luke Maguire, Tom Millar, Peter Millar, Mike James.
