Uncertain future for Eagle Tavern

The Randalls-owned pub was shut in June when the Licensing Assembly suspended its licence after learning of the events on the evening a customer was stabbed in August last year. When police officers arrived at the Eagle Tavern that night, they found the off-duty manageress ‘drunk’ and the barman ‘intoxicated’. And yesterday, residents who live nearby told the Assembly that their quality of life had improved considerably since the doors of the Lemprière Street pub were shut. The court heard that pub customers regularly urinated and defecated in the street. A letter from Devonshire Lane resident Rui De Abreu said that his lounge smelt of urine during the winter as it seeped through old cement that covers his yard. Yesterday, Eagle Tavern Ltd applied to have the licence reinstated but the Assembly reserved its decision to have more time to consider a verdict.
