Peter Kendal (70) said that he had been left very upset by the incident, which happened while he was visiting the Island with his wife Jean. However, Durrell say that there are very good reasons why dogs are not allowed in – even guide dogs. Mr Kendal said: ‘I’m blind, and I’ve got a guide dog, so he’s on a harness and by my side the whole time. ‘We waited in the queue and a woman came up to us and said: “You can’t take that dog in here with you. We don’t allow dogs in, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a guide dog – we don’t want dogs chasing loose animals”. I told her that my dog, Bailey, wouldn’t be leaving my side for he’s a guide dog who wouldn’t be doing his job if he did, and I couldn’t let him go because he needed to be with me,’ said the retired army police sergeant.
