The ban on the importation of livestock into the Island is still in place following the previous outbreak in the UK and will remain in place. That ban also applies to all animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease, including pigs, sheep and goats. All horses being brought into the Island will require a health certificate to be admitted. A ban has also been imposed on personal importation of meat or dairy products. The decisions were made at a meeting held early this morning between Environment Minister Freddie Cohen and agriculture, health protection and Customs officials. Senator Cohen said: ‘We are reacting to EU decisions to put into place a further ban on meat exports from Britain after they took into consideration the likely seriousness of the latest outbreak there.’ He added out that Heathrow was included in the zone being monitored for signs of the outbreak.
