The Deputy Bailiff, Michael Birt, passed on ‘enormous thanks’ to the outgoing States Member with a ‘truly remarkable record’, he said, having served the parish for 59 years, including three terms as Constable. Mr Ozouf could not be in court owing to illness, but his son, Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf, was asked to pass on thanks and best wishes on behalf of the court. The Deputy Bailiff continued: ‘We all wish him well. ‘The Bailiff paid tribute to Mr Ozouf in the States on his final occasion and one only had to hear the warmth and the affection held for him by States Members to know that he was a remarkable man, and that we are extremely grateful to him.’ Mr Birt then congratulated fellow long-time parish official Peter Hanning on his election to the post. He has in the past been widely praised for his handling of parish affairs. ‘Today is your day, Mr Hanning, and the court congratulates you on your election. You also have a splendid record of parish service, spanning over 26 years. The parish clearly has considerable confidence in you and I’m sure they can rely on you to navigate a steady course through the currents and rivers which may at some stage lie ahead. Not only will you have the parish to look after, but you will also have to represent the parish in the States, and we wish you every success in this important role,’ he said.
