An EU decision to restrict exports from the UK was made on Monday, and certification to allow imports into Jersey is not yet available. The States vet, Linda Lowseck, confirmed this morning that without the necessary paperwork, meat imports into Jersey had effectively been shut down. She added that they hoped to resolve the situation soon, but it was made more complicated by the fact that different levels of certification was required for fresh meat, ready meals and dairy products. The move follows a confirmed outbreak of foot and mouth disease among cattle in the UK.
