Shooting:Le Quesne leads bid for Queen’s Prize

David Le Quesne banished from his mind an earlier error in the Kolapore Team match to stay in contention for this major fullbore rifle prize, gaining a score of 149 which leaves him in reach of the leader, David Luckman of England, who fired a superb 150.23.

Also qualifying in the top 100 were team-mates Colin Mallett, with 147, and Andrew Le Cheminant with 146.

Several of the other seven Jersey qualifiers for the second stage just missed out, with the cut-off being 145.

The third and final stage of the Queen’s is fired today over 900 and 1,000 yards.

Earlier on the Great Britain fullbore rifle team put in a superb performance, in far from ideal conditions, to win the Kolapore Trophy.

Jersey’s in-form marksmen fell a little below their form of the previous day and with the GB side only dropping ten points from a possible 1,200 the real contest was for second place.

Unfortunately the well-placed Jersey side missed out on second spot when the in-form Le Quesne accidently fired on the Guernsey target …

and the four shots lost cost Jersey dearly as that was the margin by which the Sarnians secured second spot.

Guernsey recorded 1,161, followed by Canada in third, 1,158, and Jersey, 1,157 with 126 V bulls.

Jersey teenager Lulu Watson, a cadet attending Cheltenham Boarding School finished third in her shoot-off for the Prince of Wales Prize yesterday, carding 23.1 against the winning score of 24.
