But company spokesman Tony Hutchings said that they did not yet know what the venue will be used for. ‘We are just looking to see if anybody will take it on,’ he said. ‘The situation has always been that the building is due for development so has always been on a six-month rolling contract. It is difficult for us to say how long before the development starts – it could be in a year or it could be 100 years.’ Cosmopolitan director John Edgar, who last week announced that the show was to close on 5 August, said he was shocked to see the venue being advertised for a new tenant. ‘We can’t believe it,’ he said. ‘Nobody can survive in that old building, it’s falling down. What’s the point spending all that money when they are only offering a short rolling contract? If they could offer two years we’d stay.’
