SCF slipped to nine points behind Romerils on Saturday after they were defeated by eight runs by Rathbones Old Victorians at Grainville.

Romerils were without a game and with both clubs having two matches to play, against the current bottom two clubs, they then meet in a potential ‘title’ decider at Les Quennevais on 28 July.

Peter Gough and Andrew Brown were both in good form in OV’s win against SCF, Gough opened the innings to score 67 runs while Brown hit an undefeated 52.

SCF’s Matt Hague took three wickets for 33 runs in nine overs as OV’s closed their 45 overs on 205 for 6.

Steve Carlyon (37) and skipper Meeku Patidar (61) put on a second-wicket partnership of 80 but with their middle-order and tail end batsman struggling to reach double figure the champions fell just short of their target.

Peter Gough and Ward Jenner did the damage with the ball with nine-over spells resulting in four wickets for 38 for Gough and three for 36 for Jenner.

Brown also made a good contribution with one wicket for 24 runs in nine overs.

Caesareans won their first league match of the season, by four wickets against Springfield on pitch one at Les Quennevais.

Springfield were restricted to 140 all out in 43.5 overs with 17-year-old left-arm spinner Charlie Johnson in fine form taking five wickets for 37 runs in nine overs, one being a maiden.

Caesareans got off to a bad start in reply being 21 for four after seven overs, Mark Saralis taking all the wickets to finish with an excellent four for 12 runs in nine overs including two maidens.

Simon Cole and Aaron Eagar steadied the ship with Cole hitting three boundaries to finish with 24 and Eagar two short of a deserved half-century.

Eagar hit six boundaries in his 115-minute stay at the wicket as Caesareans reached their target with 4.2 overs to spare.

Romerils 2nds moved a point clear at the top of Division I after winning a low-scoring match by six wickets against previous leaders Fairbairn SCF 2nds at LQ1.

Karl Le Fèvre was the pick of the bowlers taking five SCF wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs.

Teenagers were also instrumental in Springfield 2nds’ six-wicket win against St Ouen 2nds at LQ2, Nishant Sharma hitting a dozen fours and six 6s in scoring an undefeated 104.

Peter Osmont earlier took four wickets for 29 runs in a five-over spell reducing St Ouen to 201 for nine in 40 overs.

Jeremy Startup top-scored for St Ouen with 50.
