A decision to allow independent farmer Darren Quénault, who owns the Classic Herd in St Peter, to distribute his milk and dairy products outside his own farm shop is being seen by some as the beginning of the end for the Jersey Dairy and its monopoly. But the chairman of the Jersey Milk Marketing Board denies that is the case and believes yesterday’s mediation was a positive step forward. Claims that the end is nigh for the Dairy have been made by Robert Perchard, who was one of the parties at the mediation called by Chief Minister Frank Walker in the hope of unifying the industry. Mr Perchard and Tom Binet of the Jersey Royal Company hope to create a ‘super-farm’ to replace the Dairy which they say is doing more harm than good to the industry.
Is it the end for Jersey Dairy?
