PETANQUE – Pinel takes Island Singles Championship: The wet conditions at Samarés Manor on Sunday didn’t prevent Mathew Pinel from beating Michel Morel in an emphatic final to become the Jersey Pétanque Association’s Singles Champion of 2007.
Mathew, aged 14, proved victorious out of a field of 44 players.
SWIMMING – Tigers dominate: The AIB Tigers Swimming Club top the tables in all departments in the Channel Island Interclub Championship.
After the 50th event on Saturday at Les Quennevais, the AIB Tigers, who have a combined total of 162 points, lead Beau Séjour Barracudas, 144, and Guernsey Swimming Club, 120.
SHOOTING – Le Sueur and Cotillard on target in JEP Pairs: The JEP Pairs shoot at Crabbé range on Sunday was won, with a total of 207.28 points, by Chris Cotillard and Allan Le Sueur.
Steven Osmont did not win the competition, however he claimed the top individual score of the day, 105.20.
SURFING – Grace cleans up in Cornwall: After winning round 3 of the ‘Oxbow’ British Longboard Championships in Jersey, Grace Davies came out on top in round 4 at Newquay, Cornwall.
Although she couldn’t make the final of the under-18 men’s division, Grace shone in the women’s, easily taking first place, putting her in poll position in the overall series with one more round to go.
GOLF – St Clement’s results: John Bowers and Mike Tipping won the John Smith Trophy better-ball Stableford doubles at St Clement’s Golf Club yesterday with 49 points.
While player in form Jimmy Brown beat Malcolm Berridge six and four to take the Wakeham Bowl matchplay final.
GOLF – Lundy wins Renshaw Cup: Mario Lundy was victor of the Renshaw Cup on Saturday, played at Royal Jersey.
Lundy, off 12 handicap, shot a gross 80, giving him a net 2-under.
Brian Marr was a close second, shooting a 78 gross off a 9 handicap, while Richard Roberts, off 28 handicap, shot a gross of 99, putting him third.
SHOOTING – Le Sech claims high gun: Ashley Le Sech was high gun yesterday at Lecq Clay Target’s 50-bird sporting.
Le Sech, class A, won with 44 ex 50.
John de la Haye won the AA class with 38 ex 50.
Paul Cragg and Greg Graham, B class, were tied in first place, both with a 38 ex 50.
Peter Quimby won the C class division with a 31 ex 50.
MOTORSPORT – Heavy weather: Bad Weather over the weekend led to the Jersey Motorcycle and Light Car Club events being cancelled.
GOLF – Sam edges it: Island Games golfer Sam Crenan beat Luke Trotter and Steven Anderson on a countback of the last six holes to win the Standard Bank Sid Guy Trophy at Royal Jersey Golf Club yesterday afternoon.
All three players returned net scores of 72, Crenan off five handicap, Trotter off 15 and Anderson off ten.
FOOTBALL – Le Tournoi winners: HSBC International and Rawlinson Hunter won the men’s competition main and plate finals in the annual Le Tournoi Soccer Challenge played at Les Quennevais yesterday.
Both won 1-0, HSBC beat Evergreen and Rawlinson Hunter won against G4 Securicor.
CPA won the women’s final 2-1 against Moore Stephens.
CYCLING – Gosselin takes honours: Guernsey Vélo Club’s Josh Gosselin won the annual 25-mile inter-insular road race, organised by Caesarean Cycling Club, on the Watersplash circuit yesterday morning.
Gosselin came home in two hours, 13 minutes and 30 seconds pushing CCC pair Danny Le Marquand and Alistair Cann into second and third places respectively by 12 and 45 seconds.
CCC riders also won the other three categories through Rob Coutanche (juniors), Kevin Pilley (veterans) and Jim Davis (women’s).
SHOOTING – Richardson is high gun: Tim Richardson, a newcomer to the Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club, was high gun at the club’s 50-bird sporting on Sunday with 44 ex 50.
Sean Leonard won class A with 40 ex 50, Adrian Fox won class B with 40 ex 50 and Howard Durell won class C with 35 ex 50.
John Bedford was the consecutive winner of the Veteran’s award with 32 ex 50.
Commonwealth Games shooter Mark Andrews returned to form with a 25 straight at the Olympic trap, he looks in good touch for Rhodes.
