million makeover to be completed over the next 18 months.

Ulster Stores Group, which bought the business last year, plans to bring some of the store’s original features back to life, recapturing classic elements of the 197-year-old building.

There will be three phases to the development which incorporates updating the arcade, menswear department and ladies fashion floor.

Work on the fashion accessories and jewellery department started this week and should be completed by September.

The arcade and its glass ceiling will be restored to its original condition and the floor will be refurbished to emphasise its former lustre and bold design.
