The St Peter and senior Muratti utility player took the accolade at the Coca-Cola Combination’s awards night held at the Living Legend in St Peter on Saturday.

Vincenti, who saw off challenges from fellow Muratti midfield players Dave Brodie (Jersey Scottish) and Russell Le Feuvre (Grouville) was surprised that he had won.

‘I’m really surprised,’ Vincenti said shortly after the presentation, adding: ‘Last year I thought I had a good chance but didn’t win, this year I didn’t think I’d done enough.

‘Congratulations to the other two for being nominated, they both had fine seasons.’ Vincenti, who travelled from Liverpool where he was attending university to play regularly in Jersey, got the vote of the clubs after he scored 18 goals in 17 games.

St Lawrence FC striker Phil Helleur won the Division II award ahead of Chris Andrews (Jersey Wanderers) and Freddie Mendes (Portuguese Club of Jersey).

First Tower United’s Louise Vandervliet picked up the ladies’ award, from team-mate Jodie Botterill and Jersey Wanderers’ Kathryn Porter – both previous winners of the award.

Ian Solomon was announced Referee of the Year for the third time in four years.

The other nominations were Andy Norman and Dave Roworth.

The Jersey Football Referees’ Association Shield for an outstanding act of fair play – presented by JFRA vice-president Mark Le Cornu, went to retiring Magpies manager Kenny Addison following his excellent sporting attitude shown throughout the season despite his team taking numerous heavy defeats.

It was a good night all round for St Lawrence, who finished bottom of Division II, as they took the top monetary prize of £1,600 for Sportsmanship while club stalwart Dennis Helleur received an outstanding service award from the Jersey Football Combination.

Trophies and sponsorship cheques were presented by Nigel Pérée of league sponsors Cimandis.
