Pc Sean Osmand has made a series of court appearances since last September on charges of using a computer with intent to access unauthorised information between June 2004 and May last year. But when it was suggested in court yesterday that the defence might seek a further six-week delay before a trial date is fixed, Magistrate Ian Le Marquand said that such a situation would be out of the question. He added: ‘The time has come for the court to take control of this case.’ Advocate Nuno Santos Costa, for the prosecution, told the court that Osmand had now enlisted a new lawyer, who had indicated that he might ask for such a further delay. He understood that the defence might call 50 witnesses for a trial that he estimated could last for a week.
