‘Home’ treatment for sex offenders

‘Home’ treatment for sex offenders

The announcement of the scheme comes in the wake of a number of high-profile paedophile cases in the past six weeks. Instead of being sent to England for treatment, offenders handed non-custodial sentences will be both supervised in the community and forced to address their behaviour. Mike Cutland, the assistant chief of the Probation Service, which will run the scheme, admits that treatment is not guaranteed to be successful but says that experience in the UK has shown that such schemes increase the chances of preventing reoffending.
