Field 1007: Another licence to build?

He has applied to build a 111-square-metre shed in his garden to store garden tools and a tractor. Mr Manning told a Planning applications panel meeting yesterday that the shed was for his personal use and that he needed to look after the land behind his home. But the panel decided that they would have to see the site for themselves before making a decision and the case was deferred for a site visit next month. Speaking after the meeting today, Mr Manning said that it was good news that the panel had not turned him down outright. He added that the shed was only to keep his tools and gardening equipment in. ‘It’s a small shed for me as a general workshop. I have a reasonable amount of tools and I do like repairing things and making things,’ he said. ‘I want a tractor in there as well because I have just over two vergées in the back of the field.’ Field 1007 was the subject of one of the longest planning applications in Jersey history as Mr Manning tried for permission to build a house and headquarters for his haulage business for over three decades. He finally won the right to build on the field – adjacent to the former B & Q site – after a campaign led by the late Senator Vernon Tomes.
