Lawyer calls for islands to cut UK ties

Advocate Roger Perrot, writing in the Guernsey Press, has hit out at the British government forcing legislation on the Channel Islands. He has called for Guernsey to cut loose from the UK and seek dominion status – adopting a written constitution which would make it impossible for Westminster to meddle in the islands’ affairs. Advocate Perrot – whose firm, Ozannes, opened an office in Jersey last year – believes that Guernsey should not do it alone. He says that Jersey and Guernsey should work together for their common prosperity and success. ‘We need to show that we, small as we are, are an independent jurisdiction which has the monarch as our head of State,’ he writes. ‘I think that the UK as presently governed actually wishes us harm and I see no prospect of that changing.’
