The States agreed on Tuesday to allow the department, with the consent of the Attorney General, to request the names and addresses of Islanders from mobile providers. It was argued that this would help the department investigate health and safety and employment issues. Senator Wendy Kinnard, who brought the proposition at the request of Social Security Minister Paul Routier, said that the measure was essential for the department. ‘The data might, for example, enable the department to investigate an individual who may be committing an offence,’ she said. Senator Routier added that the change would be just another tool in helping the department do their job.
