Jersey Dairy will go to Howard Davis Farm

The States voted yesterday that a covenant forbidding the use of the land for commercial purposes should be lifted. Their decision followed the written support of the family of Thomas Davis – the man who imposed the covenant when he gifted the land to the States in 1927 – and of two substantial reports into the future of Jersey’s dairy industry. Members voted 45 in favour with one abstention – by Deputy Ben Fox – after Assistant Treasury Minister John Le Fondré urged the house to give the Island’s dairy industry the boost it needed. He conceded that in the past the family had not been kept sufficiently informed of the department’s plans, but said that every effort had been made to amend that now.
