The Transport and General Workers Union, which represents about 60 of the workers, says that no delays have been caused as a result of the action.

However, it has accused Airport management and Assistant Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean of adopting an ‘uncaring’ attitude toward the plight of staff.

The union says that its Group 4 Securicor members are not eligible for sick pay and many have struggled into work while ill in order not to lose too much money.

It also says that others of these ‘low paid workers’ have regularly worked every single day for about three weeks in order to meet their bills.
