And if the proprietor of the Voisins department store is successful, he could lay the groundwork for other employers to appeal against decisions.
It is known that many business owners are concerned at some decisions made by the Employment Tribunal since it came into being last year and are especially concerned at the high levels of payouts to claimants.
Mr Voisin is to challenge a decision by the tribunal to award over £30,000 to the store’s former general manager, Tom Brown, after ruling that Mr Brown had been unfairly dismissed.
The tribunal judgment published last week ruled that Mr Brown was made redundant after Mr Voisin retired from the States and took back the running of the department store to save money.
