Mr McCourt (32) spent a month in the Swiss city in the company of three Patek employees, who were also taking the course, before he passed the final examination.

He joined the King St jewellers 3 1/2 years ago – Hettich have the sole Channel Islands agency for Patek Philippe products – from a watchmaker in Belfast.

He has also been on courses to qualify to repair Rolex and Cartier watches.
