Throughout the day, around 800 students of all ages visited the event at the RJAHS building which was buzzing with their enthusiasm and interest.

The exhibition, dedicated to ‘A Celebration of Water’, turned out to be the place where Environment Minister Freddie Cohen made his maiden speech on the environment which could have proved to be a baptism of fire in front of hundreds of children.

But despite the excited noise of new arrivals in the background, many of the youngsters who were aged between eight and ten listened attentively to his message about the importance of keeping water free from pollution.

So inspired was one little boy about all that he had seen at the exhibition that he made a point of speaking to Senator Cohen before getting back on the school coach.

‘Sir, I promise you I will look after the environment and water,’ the boy told the minister.

Clearly delighted with the response from this young conservationist and the hundreds like him at the show, the Senator said it was a wonderful start to what was likely to be a busy and successful exhibition.
