So far, the death toll stands at 67, with scores more injured.

Father Michael Marett-Crosby, of the Catholic parish in St Helier, said that worshippers at last night’s Polish mass led by Father Romano Ceglarski were invited to pray for those who died.

‘Prayers were said for the victims and for any people in Jersey whose families are affected by the tragedy,’ he said.

‘We don’t yet know whether there are any people affected, but if there are they are certainly in our prayers.’ He added that anyone who wanted to talk to Father Ceglarski for support was welcome to visit him at the St Thomas’s Welcome Centre in Val Plaisant.
