And the parish is to sponsor a trophy to be given annually to the licensed premises in St Helier which demonstrates the best management and consideration to neighbours.

Speaking in the Royal Court at this week’s Licensing Assembly, Mr Crowcroft said that a number of licensed premises continued to flout the law which prohibited them from allowing excessive noise to cause disturbance.

‘I live in town and I frequently notice loud noise coming from licensed premises – particularly during karaoke sessions on Sunday afternoons,’ Mr Crowcroft said.

In the case of evenings, he said, several pubs also allowed amplified music – whether live or recorded – to remain loud enough to cause disturbance outside.

Complaints about noise come from the public in relation to licensed premises or parties in private homes, he said.

Last year he wrote to licensees to remind them of their duty under the law.’This year I decided to advise the Licensing Bench of the situation and raise the issue when all Island Constables were present,’ he said.
