In their first decision at the inaugural cabinet meeting, the Ministers backed their colleague in the row over the proposed new ‘job family’ structure and proposals that would allow managers to move nurses from one ward to another to cover shortages and save money.

Eight of the ministers backed Senator Syvret and hospital management after a discussion on the dispute – Transport Minister Guy de Faye was called away and Housing Minister Terry Le Main left discussions because his wife is a nurse.

The proposed work reforms prompted a mass meeting of nurses to back a ‘no confidence’ motion in health service managers at a meeting on Wednesday evening and meetings have been arranged between Senator Syvret and union officials and managers on Tuesday to sort out the problems.
