In the senior series, Steve Pearl, in his Laser Stratos, had a comfortable win in the day’s first race, so although he capsized in the second, he now tops the table, having had two second places in the previous races.

Tony Newcombe’s Cloud 9, having won the opening two races, was the previous leader.

Five senior boats were on the line for the Open race.

Finishing second behind Pearl was David Carter’s RS200 Dragon Fly, followed by Emma Speller in her Laser 4.7, Strawberry Muffin.

Race two went to Jeff Speller on his Fireball with Dragon Fly and Strawberry Muffin again second and third.

Pearl leads the series with ten points, followed by Cloud Nine on 18 and Dragon Fly on 20.

Nine boats competed in the Junior Dinghy class.

Series leader Perkins first notched up a second place behind Lydia Carter in Low Fly, with Henry Perkins third on Laser 1, then a victory in the second race of the day, beating Laser 1 into second place.

Alex Harrison’s Optimist Salty Bean was third.

Only one entry, Xtravaganza, owned by Rhys Perkins and partners – managed to sail the course on the opening day of the Frostbite Series, due to gale force winds.

But there were ten IRC cruiser/racers and one sportsboat for Sunday’s second stage.

Sugden and partners’ Toybox was one of the first off the line, sailing consistently well to win on corrected time after 90 minutes’ racing – 30 sec ahead of Ben Rogers’ Harmony, which was in turn 30 sec ahead of Guy Pipon/Peter Williams’ Jammin in third.

Line honours went to Simon Benest/Sean Fellowes’ Voodoo Doll, which finished six minutes ahead of Toybox.

Xtravaganza now leads the series with five points, ahead of Voodoo Doll (10) and Toybox (12).

Three races remain, with one discard allowed.

In the RCH club handicap class, Micmac (Team Micmac) took line honours and first place on corrected time.

Sister-ships Starry Night (Stafford-Nelson/Phil James) and Cassiopeia (Chris Weeks) were second and third.
