A new joint initiative by the parish and Public Services will lead to public toilets opening all night, litter bins being emptied in the evenings and improvement of litter collection and chewing gum removal.
The changes will be introduced by the end of next year and Environment and Public Services president Senator Philip Ozouf and St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, who are behind the initiative, say they have been achieved without redundancies, staff transfers or budget cuts.
But they have fallen foul of Transport and General Workers’ Union organiser Nick Corbel, who is outraged that neither he nor his workers have been consulted about the plans.
He says it is unacceptable that the first the workers knew about the new arrangements was through the media and that he has been unable to find out more from the parish or Public Services this morning.
